Step 1 / 6

Choose your airframe

Pick the platform first. A quad and a wing use different parts lists — like choosing a gaming tower versus an SFF case.

How will you use it?

This maps to a stocked package family, not a mystery complete drone.

Your experience

Helps us avoid pointing a first pilot at a 7" long-range kit.

Budget

Typical parts cost from kits we stock. Assembly is listed separately if you want it built.

Video / flying style

Analog, HD digital, or line-of-sight. Goggles and air unit must match.

What do you need from us?

Assembled in Jaipur, DIY kit, or a ready-to-fly catalog kit when custom is the wrong tool.

This is an estimate for the workshop — not a parts cart. We confirm the plan on WhatsApp before you pay. You are responsible for DGCA and local flying rules.

    What TechHobby custom builds cover

TechHobby is an Indian FPV and RC electronics shop with a workshop in Jaipur. This page is for pilots who want a specified kit — not a mystery “complete drone” add-to-cart. We match a package from the catalog (whoop, cinewhoop, 5" freestyle or race, 7" long range, foam trainer, FPV wing, or mapping airframe), then confirm motors, stack, video, and radio on WhatsApp so the parts actually work together.

The rupee range is typical parts cost from stock we sell. Assembly labour is listed separately when you pick an assembled build. HD digital, GPS, and camera-drone RTF kits sit at the top of the range. A first analog 5" or a foam trainer sits lower.

    Quad vs fixed-wing

A multirotor and a wing are different aircraft. Pick the airframe in step 1 so the wizard does not mix a 5" freestyle BOM with a trainer airplane.

Question Multirotor / FPV quad Fixed-wing / RC airplane
How it flies Hover, punch, and crash-rebuild. Freestyle, race, or long-range explorer. Needs airspeed. Trainer, sport, FPV wing, cruise, or mapping.
First aircraft Indoor whoop or a gentle analog 5" after simulator time. Foam high-wing trainer, usually line-of-sight before FPV.
Typical extra parts 4 motors, 4-in-1 ESC, props, frame. Servos, wing/fuse, often a single motor and a different CG check.
Photography / family flying Usually a ready-to-fly camera drone, not a custom FPV quad. Mapping / survey is a payload wing, not a DJI Mini.

    Analog vs HD vs line-of-sight

Video is a separate choice from the airframe. A trainer can stay LOS. An FPV wing or 5" needs analog or digital goggles that match the air unit.

    System Best for Trade-off
Line of sight (LOS) First foam trainer or sport airplane. No goggles. You watch the plane, not a camera.
Analog FPV First 5", racing, and lighter FPV wings. Cheaper and easier to repair. Softer image than digital.
HD digital (DJI O4 / HDZero / Walksnail) Clearer freestyle, cinematic, or HD wings. Higher kit cost. Goggles and air unit must match the brand family.

    Assembled vs DIY vs ready-to-fly

You choose What TechHobby does What you do
Assembled custom build Confirm the BOM, then build and set it up. Labour is shown on the estimate. Pay after the WhatsApp parts list. Bind radio and fly legally.
DIY kit Confirm the plan on WhatsApp. We do not auto-pick catalog parts here. Solder, flash, and tune after we agree the kit.
Ready-to-fly recommendation Point at a stocked kit or camera drone when a custom airframe is the wrong tool. Buy from the product page. No custom frame.

    Custom FPV quad builds

TechHobby helps pilots specify a custom FPV multirotor — tiny whoop, cinewhoop, 5" freestyle, racing, or 7" long range — then talk through parts and assembly on WhatsApp. The number you see is a range based on typical kits we build and stock, not a checkout total.

    Anatomy of a custom build

A typical quad is a frame, motors, ESC, flight controller, video system, radio receiver, props, and a LiPo. A typical wing adds servos and a different airframe. The wizard does not suggest a shopping cart — the workshop confirms the kit on WhatsApp.

Part Role on the aircraft Shop
Frames Airframe that holds motors, stack, and camera. Wings use a foam or composite plane instead. Frames
Motors Spin the props. Size and kV must match the frame and battery. Motors
Propellers Convert motor RPM into thrust. Pitch and diameter change feel and current draw. Propellers
Flight controllers The brain: gyro, firmware, and UART ports for video and radio. Flight controllers
ESCs Drive the motors. 4-in-1 stacks are common on 5" quads. ESCs
FPV cameras The camera the pilot sees. Analog, HDZero, Walksnail, or DJI O4. FPV cameras
VTX / air units Sends the camera image to the goggles. Separate from a radio receiver. VTX / air units
Radio & ELRS Control link. ExpressLRS is the usual choice on modern FPV kits. Radio & ELRS
GPS Position hold and return-to-home on long-range quads and wings. GPS
LiPo batteries Power source. Cell count (S) must match motors, ESC, and video system. LiPo batteries
FPV goggles What you fly in. Analog and digital goggles are not interchangeable. FPV goggles
Ready-to-fly Stocked kits and camera drones when a custom airframe is the wrong tool. Ready-to-fly

    Build vs ready-to-fly vs DJI

Custom FPV is for pilots who want to repair, tune, and crash-rebuild. A DJI Mini or Air is usually better for photography and family flying. If that is you, pick Photography on a quad path and we will recommend a ready-to-fly camera drone from the catalog.

    Frequently asked questions — quads

How much does a custom FPV quad cost in India?

At TechHobby, most custom 5" analog freestyle builds land around ₹22,000–₹40,000 for parts, plus assembly if you want it built in Jaipur. HD digital (DJI O4, HDZero, Walksnail) and 7" long-range kits cost more. The wizard on this page gives a range from typical stocked kits — not a final invoice.

Is the quote a checkout price?

No. TechHobby confirms a compatible bill of materials on WhatsApp before you pay. The number is an estimate so you can compare analog vs HD and assembled vs DIY.

Analog vs DJI O4 / HD for a 5" freestyle quad?

Analog is cheaper and easier to repair after a crash. Digital HD looks clearer and costs more; the goggles must match the air unit. Choose analog if this is your first custom 5" from TechHobby.

    Can TechHobby assemble my quad?

Yes. Pick “Assembled custom build” after Multirotor. Assembly labour is shown separately on the estimate and confirmed on WhatsApp with the parts list.

Should I buy a DJI camera drone instead of a custom quad?

If you want photography, family flying, or obstacle avoidance, a ready-to-fly camera drone from the TechHobby catalog is usually the better first purchase. Custom FPV is a different sport: you repair, tune, and crash-rebuild.

    Frequently asked questions — fixed-wing

Do you build fixed-wing and RC airplanes, not only quads?

Yes. TechHobby uses the same wizard: choose Fixed-wing on the first step. We estimate foam trainers, sport planes, analog FPV wings, HD wings, long-range wings, and mapping / survey airframes from the Jaipur workshop.

How much does a custom FPV wing cost in India?

A simple analog FPV wing through TechHobby often lands around ₹16,000–₹32,000 for parts. HD digital, long-range, and mapping wings cost more. Trainers can start under ₹15,000. The number is still an estimate until WhatsApp confirms the BOM.

Do I need FPV goggles for a trainer airplane?

No. A first foam trainer is usually line-of-sight. Add analog or HD FPV later when landings are consistent. Goggles are a separate catalog purchase.

Can you assemble a foam trainer or FPV wing?

Yes. Pick assembled in the last step. Servos, CG, and radio setup are confirmed on WhatsApp — not auto-checked-out.

Do you spec mapping or survey wings?

Yes. Choose Mapping / survey on the fixed-wing path. That is a camera-mount endurance airframe, not a 5" freestyle quad. Payload and autopilot are confirmed on WhatsApp.

Do I need a licence for a custom wing or quad in India?

You are responsible for DGCA rules and local flying restrictions. TechHobby can point you at official resources during the consult. We do not sell a licence or a legal exemption.
