ExpressLRS bind and failsafe checklist (India)
Match firmware majors, set the binding phrase, pick a packet rate, and prove failsafe on the bench before the first LiPo — with 2.4 GHz receivers TechHobby lists.
ExpressLRS is the default RX path on many TechHobby freestyle and long-range builds. Bind problems are usually a version mismatch, a wrong binding phrase, or an antenna in carbon — not “bad luck.” Treat 2.4 GHz ELRS as the default in India unless you have a dual-band radio and a matching receiver, and you have checked the rules for the band you will transmit on.
Before you leave the bench
- Radio and RX on the same ExpressLRS major version
- Binding phrase matches in LUA (or Wi-Fi) on both ends
- Packet rate sensible for the flying — not the maximum “because faster”
- Failsafe set in Betaflight and proven with the radio off, props off
- RX antenna clear of carbon plates and VTX heat
Receivers we list for 2.4 GHz
- BETAFPV ELRS Nano — ₹1,499, T antenna
- GEPRC ELRS NanoSE — ₹1,699
- HappyModel EP1 dual — ₹1,999, two antennas
Pick the radio before the packet rate: Boxer vs GX12. More hardware sits under radio receivers and radio controllers.
Failsafe, on the bench
Set the failsafe in Betaflight for your airframe (drop, land, or the mode your instructor specified). Then, props off, switch the radio off. Motors must stop or the craft must enter that mode. If nothing happens, do not fly. Damaged RX pads after a crash go through ELRS repair.
Need the whole quad specified first? Use custom build.
Frequently asked questions
Do I flash TX and RX to the same major version?
Yes. Mismatched ExpressLRS majors are a common bind fail. Match versions before you blame the antenna.
Where do I buy ELRS receivers?
Shop Radio & Receiver on TechHobby. A BETAFPV ELRS Nano 2.4 GHz, GEPRC NanoSE, or HappyModel EP1 diversity RX covers most 5" quads.
What packet rate should I start with?
Start in the middle of the menu, not the maximum. Higher rates need cleaner RF and a closer link. Confirm telemetry after you change it.
How do I prove failsafe?
On the bench, props off: arm if your process needs it, then switch the radio off. Motors must stop or the craft must enter the failsafe you set in Betaflight.
Is 900 MHz ELRS the default in India?
Treat 2.4 GHz ExpressLRS as the default. Dual-band GX12 Gemini modes need a matching receiver and must follow the wireless rules where you fly.
