Fixed-wing or multirotor for your first TechHobby build?
A foam trainer, an FPV wing, and a 5" freestyle quad are three different BOMs. Jaipur builders start with that choice so parts lists never mix.
A multirotor and a fixed-wing are different aircraft. The TechHobby wizard forces that choice first so a 5" freestyle BOM never mixes with a foam trainer list. Both paths can use the same EdgeTX radio. Almost nothing else is shared.
Multirotor first
Choose a quad if you want freestyle, racing, cinewhoop, or close-in FPV. You will learn props, tuning, and crash repair faster. A first 5" analog kit is the ₹22,000–₹40,000 parts band. Whoops use a different motor class — the Flywoo ROBO 1003 is 1–2S, not 6S. Talk to builders on Meet our team for a Jaipur consult.
Fixed-wing first
Foam trainers teach line-of-sight landings and throttle without goggles. FPV wings and mapping airframes come later. Servos, centre of gravity, and radio setup are confirmed on WhatsApp — not auto-checked-out. You do not need a 5" motor set or 5043 props on a trainer.
What you can share between both
- A Mode 2 ELRS radio — Boxer, Boxer Max, or GX12
- The ELRS bind and failsafe checklist, as a separate model on the radio
- Workshop repair for electronics that survive a crash: drone part repairing
Multirotor pilots usually start with that radio and either whoop or 5" motors. Either path stays India-ready: parts from stock we sell, assembly optional, and you stay responsible for DGCA and local flying rules.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need goggles for a foam trainer?
Usually no. Start line-of-sight. Add FPV when landings are consistent.
Can I meet a builder in Jaipur?
Yes. See Meet our team and WhatsApp a named builder who has a number listed in admin.
Is a 5" freestyle quad a good first aircraft?
It is if you want FPV freestyle and accept crash repair. A foam trainer is slower to break and teaches throttle and landings without goggles.
Can one radio fly both a wing and a quad?
Yes if the radio is EdgeTX with ExpressLRS. Bind a separate model for each airframe. See Boxer vs GX12, then the ELRS checklist.
Does mapping use the same BOM as freestyle?
No. Mapping airframes, cameras, and autopilots are a different list from a 5" freestyle quad. The wizard asks that up front.
