Burnt FC or ESC after a crash: repair or replace?
How TechHobby’s Jagatpura bench decides after MOSFET damage, dead USB, or cratered pads — and when a new 4-in-1 is cheaper than labour.
After a hard crash, pilots ask whether to repair the flight controller or the 4-in-1 ESC. At TechHobby drone part repairing in Jagatpura, Jaipur, the answer starts with inspection — not a guess from a phone photo.
What to send with the Repair ID
- Clear photos of both sides of the board, the burnt area, and the connector row
- Whether USB enumerates, and whether any motor still spins on the bench
- Airframe size and cell count (a 6S 5" 4-in-1 is a different job from a 2S AIO)
Photos help triage. Repairability is confirmed after the bench. If you approve the estimate, the inspection fee is typically adjusted into that total. Open a request, ship from any Indian state, or arrange Jaipur drop-off after you have a Repair ID.
When repair makes sense
Lifted pads that can be rebuilt, a single dead motor channel with intact copper, recoverable USB issues, or localised MOSFET failure can be cheaper than a new board. Typical fault pages: ESC repair and FC repair. A damaged ELRS pad set can go through ELRS receiver repair.
When replace wins
Cratered MOSFET banks, missing MCUs, multilayer burns, or water under a shield can can cost more in labour than a replacement 4-in-1. We say so after the bench. We do not claim every part is repairable. If the whole freestyle kit is gone, use custom build instead of stacking partial repairs.
What usually survives the same crash
Motors that still spin smoothly and a LiPo that is not puffed can stay. Replace smashed 5043 props first. If you need a fresh 6S pack, see the CNHL 1300mAh 6S guide. Do not fly a three-motor quad to “finish the pack.”
Frequently asked questions
Do photos replace bench inspection?
No. Photos help triage and a Repair ID. Repairability is confirmed after technical inspection in Jaipur.
Is the inspection fee adjusted?
If you approve the repair estimate, the inspection fee is typically adjusted into the approved total.
Can I ship a burnt stack from another state?
Yes. Open a repair request, get a Repair ID, then ship. Jaipur drop-off is also available after the ID is issued.
When is a new ESC cheaper than repair?
Cratered MOSFET banks, missing MCUs, multilayer burns, or water under a can often cost more in labour than a replacement 4-in-1.
Should I keep flying on three motors?
No. A dead channel after a crash is a bench job. Flying a wounded 4-in-1 usually kills the next FET or the FC.
